The driver of a truck had a lucky escape Friday, Nov. 29, after his truck crashed into a tree on Route 52.

Lincolnville Fire Chief Ben Hazen said his department was called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. By the time emergency crews arrived, Steve and Kyle Young, both of Lincolnville, had stopped and pulled the driver — identified in published reports as Nicholas Colburn — out of the truck.

Colburn was taken to the hospital by North East Mobile Health Services, Hazen said.

Subsequently, the truck burst into flames, probably from the impact with the tree, Hazen said. It took about 45 minutes to put out the fire with water and foam, he said.

Route 52 near Stan Cilley Road was closed for around two hours, according to Hazen, and traffic was diverted to nearby roads.

Waldo County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene, but did not return phone calls before press time.
