There was not much holiday cheer to be shared among Waldo County high school basketball squads on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Monday, Dec. 16, as the Mount View girls and Belfast boys and girls, along with the Searsport boys, suffered notches in their respective loss columns.

The Mustang girls were downed by Camden Hills, while the Lion teams fell to Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield. On Monday, the Searsport boys lost to George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Boys basketball

George Stevens Academy 84, Searsport 70

At Searsport Dec. 16, the Vikings (0-4) stayed close to the Eagles throughout the game, but could not surpass the visitors and fell by 14 points. George Stevens Academy led 22-16, 39-29 and 57-46 at the quarter breaks.

Troy Reynolds scored a career-high 29 points for Searsport, while Bryce Shorey added 13; Barrett Grant, 10; Jake Powell, nine; Jay Burkard and Isaiah Mentas, both three; Cody Parks, two; and Eric Phillips, one.

Brett Ingraham paced the Eagles with 22 points, while Finn Davis-Batt added 19; Kelsey Allen, 11; and Phil Shaheen, 10.

Girls basketball

Camden Hills 63, Mount View 30

At Rockport Dec. 14, the Windjammers (4-0) had no trouble with the visiting Mustangs and sailed to their fourth straight win. Camden Hills led 10-8, 34-15 and 50-23 at the quarter breaks.

Maddie Bowman poured in 20 points to lead the Windjammers, while Charlotte Messer, Jaclyn Gilson and Rachel Pease each added 10; Eliza Boetsch, seven; and Jane van der Schaaf, four.

For Mount View (1-3), Jenni Nadeau netted 12 points, while Courtney Morse added nine.

Camden Hills led 38-26 in the rebound battle and the Windjammers also dished out 20 assists.

Maine Central Institute 44, Belfast 37

At Belfast Dec. 14, the Lions (0-4) again were denied their first win of the year, falling by seven points to the Huskies of Pittsfield. The game included Belfast finishing with only four players, including one starter, on the floor as all others had fouled out.

Keying the Lions were Ashley Littlefied (12 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals, assist, blocked shot), Breann Cummings (8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals), Anna Simmons (6 points, 5 rebounds, steal), Kelci Faulkingham (5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) Kaitlin Goslant (3 points, 2 rebounds), Maddy Littlefield (6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Mariah Sturgis (2 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals).

Brianna Losee scored 23 points to lead MCI, while Ashley Alton added 13.

The Lions made 6-of-20 free throws (30 percent) and the Huskies 23-of-45 (51 percent).
