Harbor House Community Service Center in Southwest Harbor invites girls and boys junior high and high school basketball teams to register for the 22nd annual Great Harbor Shoot-Out tournament, held each year in March.

This event, which has become the largest postseason youth basketball tournament in the state, will take place Friday through Sunday, March 14-16 in gymnasiums on Mount Desert Island, and in Trenton and Ellsworth.

“Last year, 83 teams participated in the tournament. Thousands of people were drawn to the Mount Desert Island region during what is typically the slowest time of the year,” said Ingrid Wilbur Kachmar, executive director of Harbor House. “We are very proud of this three-day event which has a significant impact on our island community. This tournament is a fundraiser for Harbor House and it provides funding for many of our youth programming areas.”

Diana Novella, event coordinator, said, “Volunteers are needed to help with the various event activities throughout the weekend. There are so many ways that you can help — by selling tickets at the door, running the clocks, and selling concessions. This is a great way to show your support for our local communities and area youth.”

The tournament will be publicized throughout the state and individuals and businesses are encouraged to participate as sponsors. Sponsors will be listed in the event program and on the Harbor House website. Sponsorships may be mailed to Harbor House at P.O. Box 836, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
