George Edward “Chummy” Triehy passed away at an Augusta Hospital Jan. 15, 2014 at the age of 72. He was born in Belfast Sept. 14, 1941 to the late Edward L. and Edna (Seekins) Triehy.

George was predeceased by his only sister Kathryn Triehy Payson, his brother-in-law George Payson and his only niece Lynda Payson.

George is survived only by a few cousins, his guardians Jessie Rhodes and Laura Stairs, and a close friend Milford Rhodes.

George was a Down syndrome patient, so by his sister's wishes, Jessie and Laura were made legal guardians to succeed her after her death.

A very special thank you is expressed to the staff members of the Lamson House in Augusta, where George lived the last 4 to 5 years of his life. There were 3 other Down syndrome patients living there. He really enjoyed his last few years he had. He went to fairs, shopping, out to eat restaurants and take-outs including McDonalds, on train rides, and horse-back rides; all things he had never done before.

There will be no funeral services held; a graveside service will be announced in the spring.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast, Maine.
