Ramona Ada Strickland, 85, of Searsport passed away at Harbor Hill in Belfast, surrounded by loved ones, Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. She was born June 25, 1928 in Belfast the daughter of the late Hervey and Ila (Wing) Jackson.

She was born and raised in Belfast where she spent many hours helping her dad in his bakery. She also had many fond memories working as a teen in Darres' restaurant.

Ramona graduated from Crosby High School and attended Husson College for a year. She was employed with Central Maine Power Company for many years then she worked at Superior Shellfish for 10 years.

Ramona loved gardening, plants, knitting and reading. She enjoyed politics and learning new languages. Ramona was also fond of cats. Ramona was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Strickland Sr., and her siblings Woodrow Jackson and Katherine Whiting.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Jr. and his wife Kathy of Searsport; grandchildren, Megan Work of Stockton Springs, Michaela Mackey of Philadelphia, Benjamin Strickland of Belfast and Kendra Strickland of Searsport; and nephews Charles "Bing" Whiting and his wife Joyce, and James Whiting and his wife Velma.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 18, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, Maine. In memory of Ramona's love of plants the family would like anyone wishing to send flowers to do so in a potted plant form.
