Searsport Animal Control now has a social media presence with the unveiling of a new Facebook page dedicated to spreading the word about upcoming events like rabies clinics and letting the community know about lost or found animals in town.

Searsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye said the town's animal control office, in conjunction with the police department, launched a Facebook page in late January in the hopes of keeping the community updated on all things concerning local pets.

"We will be posting items such as any missing pets, or any issues relating to animal control in town," said LaHaye.

Along with posting animal control information, LaHaye said the social media component allows the town to immediately post photos of lost and found animals, making it that much faster to reunite pets and their owners.

In addition, LaHaye said the page will be the place to find public service announcements such as reminders to bring pets inside when temperatures are particularly cold.
