The sixth annual Swan Lake Ice-Fishing Derby will be Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23. Weigh-in will be 3 to 5 p.m. each day in the parking lot across from Swan Lake Grocery.

The event is for fish caught in Swan Lake only.

Prizes include $100 for first, $75 for second and $50 for third in trout, salmon and togue categories. Prizes will be based on weight.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Belfast Area High School Outing Club.

"This is our sixth year and the derby has been a success," said Chris Bartlett, event organizer. "Rob Newcomb, owner of Swan Lake Grocery, is sponsoring us again and has allowed us to use the parking lot across the street for the weigh-in station. This derby has grown over the years and is a lot of fun."

Tickets are $5 each and a person can register one fish per ticket, so those who think they may register more than one fish might want to buy a few mor tickets.

There are door prizes that can be won with the purchase of the ticket. The grand prize is an 8-inch Jiffy ice auger. Other prizes are an ice auger motor cover, courtesy of Joe Burke & Son Canvas Shop in Newburgh, and one cord of firewood, courtesy of Jon Cox in Morrill.

There also may be other door prizes.

Tickets can be purchased at Belfast Area High School, Belfast Variety, Outdoors Sportsman, Swan Lake Grocery and Dodge Corner Bait Shop.
