Jo Anne Standish passed away peacefully March 4 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. She was born Feb. 4, 1950 in Allegan, Mich., youngest daughter of Arnold F. Standish and Alice Marie (Flanagan) Standish. She was predeceased by her father in August 1986, her mother in October 1993, her oldest sister Carole in December 2002. She is survived by her brother Arnold, of Brunswick, and sister Alice, of Union, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was educated in Stockton Springs through eighth grade and graduated from Sumner High School in East Sullivan, Maine. She lived with her parents throughout her entire life. After their death, she lived frugally by herself for twenty years with her beloved dogs. She had lived in Grey Birch Nursing Home for two years until her death. Her health began to fail her as she reached 55 years old. Within the last three years she lost her eyesight, and also lost her mobility.

She was a fighter until the end, as her health and life have always been difficult. Throughout her life she never tried to harm anyone. During her last face to face talk with her brother this summer she demonstrated a resilient sense of humor.

She gave to animal protection causes. She loved to walk with her dogs through the woods near her house.

Her life was caught in a maelstrom and she tried briefly and bravely but she could not get ahead of the storm. Her greatest accomplishment was her perseverance during tough times.

As a child of God she will be missed and loved.

Burial will be in Gordon Cemetery in Searsport in the summer.

Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Searsport, Maine,
