Karla Mae Cook, 45, of Port Charlotte, Fla. passed away Feb. 28, 2014 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She was born Sept.13, 1968 in Pittsfield, Maine and grew up in Troy, Maine. Karla was a 1987 graduate of Mount View High School in Thorndike where she was a cheerleader, and participated in soccer and field hockey. She competed in a Miss Maine Pageant in 1988 in Portland, Maine where she was awarded Miss Amity.

She moved to Florida more than 20 years ago to enjoy the sunshine and her love of warm weather. Karla was a waitress at Beyond the Sea in Englewood, Florida, she also worked on the island of Boca Grande, Fla. for many years. She enjoyed the beaches and most of all spending time with family and friends. She lived life to the fullest. She also was an avid football fan and Nascar fan. She loved dancing, singing, visiting the beach and boating with her friends.

Karla is survived by her mother Donna Cook LaBranche; her sister Lisa Cook Elkins; her husband Hank; her brothers Joseph Cook and special friend Danielle, and Jeremy Cook and his wife Desiree; nieces and nephews Aaron Elkins, Megan Elkins, Timothy Cook, Chelsey Cook and Kasey Knutson; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Karla was predeceased by her grandparents Robert, Corinne Cook and a niece, Angelina Cook.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday March 22, 2014 at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, Maine 04915.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her mother, Donna LaBranche, 306 Belfast Road, Knox, Maine, 04986, for a future college scholarship to be set up in her name at Mount View High School or to Project Phoenix in Englewood, Fla.
