Alfred Joseph Turner, 95, formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully May 2, 2014 in Belfast. He was born Feb. 23, 1919 in Washington to Granville R. Turner and Clara McElhiney Turner. Alfred grew up in Washington and attended Washington High School. He attended the South Liberty Baptist Church.

Alfred loved the outdoors, animals and woods and worked much of his life as a woodcutter. He was known to work all day in the woods and then he would take a walk everyday.

Alfred moved to Pownal and then spent his later years in Belfast. He attended the First Baptist Church of Belfast. Alfred always appreciated the help, care and concern his niece, Lorna Getchell, provided him over the years. He is predeceased by his parents, Granville and Clara Turner; sister, Mildred Turner Lenfest; and brother Wilford RussellTurner.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. May 7 at the First Baptist Church of Belfast, 95 High St., Belfast. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will follow at the Marr Cemetery in Razorville.
