Willis Sawyer Hinckley, a man of few words and a true gentleman, passed peacefully Nov. 9, 2013 in Seattle, Wash. at the age of 95. He was borne May 12, 1918 in Harrisburg, Pa. to Leonard and Grace (Ensinger) Hinckley. He was in the Army Signal Corp during World War II and then the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel. He began his working career with the Pennsylvania Bell Telephone Company, then was an engineer with the Bell Telephone Labs and finally became vice president of AT&T. He and his wife Marjorie retired to Belfast, Maine where they resided for more than 30 years.

Married for 62 years, Marjorie (Peck) Hinckley preceded him in death Oct. 11, 2008. He is survived by daughters Anne Lawatsch of Nazareth, Pa. and Barbara Hoefsmit of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Milbridge, Maine Monday May 19, 2014.
