Penobscot Bay Singers will perform hits from the British Invasion, folk rock and R&B at their annual Pops Concert Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14. The café-style seating concerts will begin 7:30 p.m. each night in the parish hall of First Church UCC, 8 Court St.

This year’s pops program explores the rich musical genres of the 1960s and early ‘70s. The Singers, along with the Rick Dostie Trio, will present tunes by the Beatles, from “She Loves You” all the way to “Imagine” with 10 other songs in between. A medley of four songs, arranged by Kirby Shaw, of The Mamas and the Papas will be performed, as will be “Sounds of Silence” and “Scarborough Fair” for those who enjoy Simon & Garfunkel. Stevie Wonder's “You are the Sunshine of My Life” will round out the concert with some rhythm and blues. Selections will be performed by soloists, ensemble groups and the entire chorus.

Penobscot Bay Singers are once again the recipient of a handmade quilt, crafted and donated by Susan Woehler. Raffle tickets are currently available from members of the group and may be purchased at the concerts. The drawing will be held Saturday evening; ticketholders need not be present to win.

The parish hall is upstairs in the rear of the church; there is an elevator for those who cannot negotiate the stairs. Refreshments will be served during intermission. Admission is $15, free for accompanied children.
