With summer rapidly — and officially — approaching, the baseball play in the Midcoast Babe Ruth League continues to heat up as area squads make their pitch to be the best.

Recent scores include: Waldo County 1, Union Farm Equipment 0 (June 19); Rockland Café 15, Damariscotta Lions 8 (June 15); Waldo County 13, Swan Lake Grocery 5 (June 15); Waldoboro 11, Union Farm Equipment 4 (June 15); and Rockport 7, Camden 6 (June 15).

Standings for games played through June 19 include: Rockland Café 5-0, Swan Lake Grocery 4-1, Waldo County 4-1, Damariscotta Lions 3-3, Waldoboro 3-3, Wiscasset Merchants 2-2, Rockport 2-3, Union Farm Equipment 1-5 and Camden 0-5.

Waldo County 1, Union Farm Equipment 0

At Searsport June 19, the hosts plated a run in the fourth inning, which proved the difference in a win over UFE.

Leading Waldo County at the plate were Mitchell Philbrook (3 singles), Brandon Smith (2 singles), Dylan Dinardo (single, run) and Kyle Moore (run).

For Union Farm Equipment, Patrick Madden (2 singles), Adam Wilcox (single) and Eli McCollett (single) paced the offense.

Colby Furrow allowed two hits and one walk, with six strikeouts, on the mound for Waldo County, while Emmett Shell tossed three innings of relief, allowing two hits and no walks, with four strikeouts.

Nathan Emerson went the distance on the hill for Union Farm Equipment, allowing six hits and six walks, with four strikeouts.

Rockland Café 15, Damariscotta Lions 8

At Damariscotta June 15, the visitors remained unbeaten as they poured on runs late to defeat the Lions. Rockland Café scored two runs in the first and fourth innings, three in the fifth and four in both the sixth and seventh innings, while Damariscotta Lions scored six in the first and one in the fourth and fifth frames.

Leading Rockland Cafe at the plate were Titus Kaewthong (2 triples, single), Coby Dorr (2 singles, triple), Connor Harvey (2 singles, double), Anthony Moore (double), Jack Freeman (double) and Matt Waldron (single).

For Damariscotta Lions, Gus Hunt (2 singles), Andrew Martin (2 singles) and Coby Tozier (2 singles) keyed the offense.

Freeman, Uriah Thongsophaphone, Waldron and Moore pitched for Rockland Café, allowing nine hits and 10 walks, with 11 strikeouts. Cody Tozier, Baker Gove and Sullivan Fink pitched for the Lions, allowing 10 hits and seven walks, with eight strikeouts.

Waldo County 13, Swan Lake Grocery 5

At Searsport June 15, the hosts outhit the visitors 10-4 and dealt them their first loss of the season. Waldo County scored three runs in the first and fifth innings, one in the third and sixth and five in the fourth. Swan Lake Grocery scored twice in the first and fourth frames and one in the seventh.

Leading the Waldo County offense were Brandon Smith (2 singles, 3 runs), Evan Thomas ( 2 singles, 3 RBI, run), Barrett Grant (double, 2 runs), Max Thomas (double, RBI, 2 runs), Kyle Moore (single, 2 runs), Mitchell Philbrook (single, run), Joey Danna (single, run), Colby Furrow (single, 2 RBI) and Caleb Ackley (run).

For Swan Lake Grocery, Skyler Perkins (2 singles, RBI, run), Zack Dyer (double, run), Tyler Bartlett (run), Peter Spectre (RBI), Garrett Hamlin (RBI), Tristan Roberts (single), Rick Wyman (run) and Alex Newcomb (run) paced the offense.

Smith and Furrow pitched for Waldo County, while Lucien Gordley-Smith, Perkins, Dyer and Bartlett pitched for Swan Lake Grocery.
