A Monroe woman was transported by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital Monday afternoon, June 23 after a deer ran into her car and partially came through the open driver's side window as she was traveling on Route 3.

Morgan Nickerson, 19, of Monroe, was headed east in a 2007 Pontiac just before 2 p.m. when the deer entered the road and ran into the driver's side of the vehicle. Nickerson had been driving with her window rolled down at the time, and according to the crash report at Waldo County Sheriff's Office, the animal "came into contact" with Nickerson on impact.

Liberty Volunteer Ambulance Service transported Nickerson to the Belfast hospital as a precaution, according to the report, as she is pregnant and had complained of pain in her arm and stomach after the collision.

Responding officers left her vehicle legally parked near the crash scene, as the estimated $1,500 in damages resulting from the accident were cosmetic in nature and the car was still operable. Nickerson was able to retrieve her car after she received medical treatment.

Police gave the deceased deer to a bystander.
