After playing a bundle of exhibition games in recent days, teams in the District 2 Little League 11- and 12-year-old double-elimination baseball all-star tournament began their diamond battles on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29 at the Marge Jones Recreational Facility on Route 90.

In opening games, Medomak Valley outlasted Lincoln County 7-5 and Waldo County nipped Oceanside 2-0.

The tourney continued on Sunday, June 29 at the same site, as Five Town bested Medomak 10-0 and Oceanside beat Lincoln County 16-2 in an elimination game.

More games are on the docket for the coming days as Waldo County will face Five Town on Tuesday, July 1 at 5:30 p.m., while Oceanside and Medomak Valley will face off in a loser's bracket game on Wednesday, July 2 at 5:30 p.m., also in Rockport.

The rosters from teams in the tourney are:

Five Town — Gage Whalen, Sam Moody, Michael Kremin, True Crane, Ben Wells, Sam Conlan, Aidan Schecter, Rylee Rapp, Jacob Knowlton, Nick Tausek, Quinn Brown, Jeremy Fraser and Caellen Roberts. The team is managed by Barrett Brown and coached by Jon Crane.

Medomak Valley — Jordan Powell, Duncan Widdecombe, Darius Pierpont, Travis Wyman, Michael Simmons, Gabe Allaire, Jonah Miller, Connor Simmons, Kallon Mortenson, Max Moody, Kyle Weinwand, Brady Simmons and Clayton Belcher. The team is managed by Jake Emerson and coached by Jason Simmons and Matt Moody.

Oceanside — Nathan Coombs, Jude Forti, Karl Ilvonen, Abe LeMole, Obie Miller, Aidan Munro, Carson Murphy, Austin Pagano, Ben Poland, Caleb Powell, Trevor Reed, Ben Ripley and Cole Stevens. The team is managed by John Murphy.

Waldo County — Colby Snow, Isiah Runci, Riley Boulay, Charlie Spiegel, Anthony Sanbord, Dylan Abbott, Dagen Moody, Vincent Bonnarigo, Tanner Veilleux, Anfernee Glidden, Chris Kelly and Donnie Resh. The coaches are Luke Boulay, Mike Abbott and Travis Veilleux.

Lincoln County — Tiger Cummings, Josh Tomasello, Quincy Perry, Jason Greenleaf, Zachary Tozier, Adam Sirois, Chase Crockett, Colby Clark, Joseph Giberson, Tanner Geyer, Eric Harvey and Ben Carter. The coach is Chris Perry.

Oceanside 16, Lincoln County (4 inns.)

At Rockport June 29, Oceanside had no trouble with Lincoln County and staved off elimination via the mercy rule. Oceanside scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and seven in the third, while Lincoln County scored one in the first and one in the third.

Leading Oceanside at the plate were Reed (2 singles, 3 runs), Munro (double, RBI, run), Poland (single), Ripley (3 singles, 3 runs), Stevens (2 singles, run), Miller (double, 2 runs), Lemole (single, run), Forti (double, single, 2 runs), Powell (run), Coombs (run) and Ilvonen (run).

For Lincoln County, Cummings (single, run), Perry (run) and Sirois (single) paced the offense.

Stevens and Reed pitched for Oceanside, allowing two hits and three walks, with five strikeouts. Greenleaf pitched for Lincoln County, allowing 13 hits and six walks, with three strikeouts.

Five Town 10, Medomak Valley 0 (4 inns.)

At Rockport June 29, Five Town made quick work of Medomak Valley and prevailed via the mercy rule. Five Town scored three runs in the first and second innings and four in the third.

Leading Five Town at the plate were Brown (single, 3 runs), Conlan (single, run), Kremin (home run, single, 5 RBIs), Moody (run), Fraser (double, run), Schecter (single, run), Rapp (run) and Whalen (run).

Brown pitched the shutout on the hill for Five Town.

Medomak Valley 7, Lincoln County 5

At Rockport June 28, Medomak Valley prevailed by two runs in its first game of the tournament. Medomak Valley scored twice in the second inning, four times in the third and one in the fourth, while Lincoln County scored one run in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Leading Medomak Valley at the plate were Widdecombe (single, run), Pierpont (single, run, stolen base), Powell (single, run, 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases), Allaire (2 doubles, RBI, run), Simmons (single, RBI), Moody (single, run) and Miller (single, run).

For Lincoln County, Cummings (single), Perry (2 singles), Crockett (single, run), Clark (single, run) and Harvey (2 runs) paced the offense.

Simmons, Allaire and Wyman pitched for Medomak Valley, allowing five hits and seven walks, with nine strikeouts. Sirois pitched for Lincoln County, allowing eight hits and five walks, with seven strikeouts.

Waldo County 2, Oceanside 0

At Rockport June 28, Waldo County blanked Oceanside and sent them to the loser's bracket. Waldo County scored single runs in the fourth and fifth frames.

Leading Waldo County at the plate were Spiegel (single, double, run), Abbott (single, run) and Veilleux (single).

For Oceanside, Ripley (single, 2 doubles) and Pagano (single) paced the offense.

Boulay pitched for Waldo County, allowing four hits and no walks, with 14 strikeouts.

Ben Ripley worked 4 2/3 innings on the hill for Oceanside, allowing three hits, while striking out eight. Stevens allowed one hit and three walks in 1/3 of an inning, while Reed also tossed a scoreless frame.
