Searsport firefighters battled a pickup truck fire in the woods on Campground Road late in the morning of Wednesday, July 2.
The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. when neighbors across the road from where the truck was parked noticed the blaze, Searsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye said. As of Monday, July 7, LaHaye said officers spoke with the original owner of the truck, Mark Stovall, formerly of Belfast, who told police he sold the vehicle about one year ago.
Police have been unable to contact the new owners of the pickup truck, LaHaye said.
LaHaye said the fire destroyed the truck and the incident is still under investigation. He added that based on evidence gathered at the scene, the gas tank had been removed from the truck and left near the vehicle. He also noted the vehicle was not seen parked in the woods the night before.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
Searsport Ambulance also responded to the fire.
