Ellen Mason is the Artist in Residency Sunday through Saturday, July 20 through 26, at Searsport Shores Ocean Campground. The drop-in, hands-on Camp and Create presentations take place throughout the week. No fee is required for instruction.

Mason will sew a piece of clothing each day. Participants can learn simple hand stitching, construction and how to mend their own clothing. When she is not having fun at “the Shores,” Mason lives with her family in a handmade home in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. She has always been curious about textiles and would like to explore every process in the world before she kicks the bucket. So far, she has endeavored knitting, machine knitting, sewing, weaving, silk-screen and dyeing.

Mason has a degree in studio art, emphasis on weaving, and has worked as a trim designer, illustrator, children’s clothing designer, dyer and knitting pattern designer. Some of her knitwear designs may be found on Ravelry. On Groundhog Day, 2014, she launched a personal project called A Stitcher's Wardrobe: A well rounded handmade wardrobe of basics and not-so-basics. Next Groundhog Day, if she casts a shadow, there will be another six weeks of the project.
