Madeline Frances Blanchard, of Thorndike, passed away peacefully July 8, 2014, in High Point, N.C.

She was born on Oct. 5, 1923, in Thorndike, the daughter of the late Merton and Lena (Bailey) Bradford. She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast, class of 1942.

She was married to Malcolm C. Blanchard on May 24, 1947, who predeceased her on Oct. 3, 1989.

She was employed by First National Bank in Belfast, and was a store clerk for several years at the Thorndike General Store.

She was a member of the Thorndike Congregational Church in Thorndike for more than 50 years.

She was a school volunteer at Mount View High School in Thorndike.

She also belonged to the Thorndike Extension, Ladies Fire Auxiliary, and the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Rebekah Anne Collins; a brother, Merle Bradford; and a sister, Doris B. Cole.

She is survived by her son, Stuart C. Blanchard and his wife Judith of Strafford, N.H., and their children, Tristan and Brendan Blanchard; and a daughter, Loain F. Collins and her husband Michael of Kernersville, N.C., and their daughter Mary Beth Collins.

There will be no visiting hours.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Thorndike Congregational Church, in Thorndike. A reception followed. Burial was at Halldale Cemetery, Route 220, in Montville.
