Midcoast Children's Chorus, the children's chorus for the Midcoast Community Chorus, has announced Steve Weston will be its new youth chorus director. The new season will begin Thursday, Sept. 25, a new day, at a new location: Camden Congregational Church, 55 Elm St./Route 1.

Weston brings a strong musical background to the position with a bachelor of music degree from the University of Maine; and a Masters of Music degree in Choral Conducting from New Mexico State University. He has directed middle school and high school programs; and recently served as director of the Bangor Area Children's Choir. Weston has relocated to the Midcoast, where he serves as Music Director for Camden Congregational Church and music teacher at the Riley School, as well as a private vocal teacher.

As a part of MCC, MC3! has a choral mission of singing as a community, for the community, and welcomes children age 6 to 13 years old to join the chorus. Mimi Bornstein, founder and artistic director of Midcoast Community Chorus, said she is very excited to have Weston become part of the MCC community because he “brings a vast understanding of music, choral arts, and a wonderful history working with choral youth programs to MC3!"

"The spirit of MCC is exciting and I am very pleased to be a part of it … to once again be involved in a children's chorus program and I am looking forward to bringing and building excitement and passion for singing and community service to young singers in the Midcoast," Weston said.

Registration for MC3! Will begin at 3:15 p.m.; weekly rehearsals will be Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Cost for the semester is $80; partial and full scholarships are available, as are payment plans.
