Irene Mortko, a DecoArt Helping Artist for many years, will present a hands-on demonstration of painting techniques using Chalky Finish paint, a new product, Thursday, Sept, 25, at 7 p.m. at the Palermo Community Library, 2789 Route 3. Participation is limited to 10 and preregistration is required by calling 993-6088 or emailing palermo@palermo.lib.me.us. The class is open to high school students and adults and the fee is $5; all supplies are provided.

Chalky Finish paint has a distinctive chalk matte finish that creates beautiful, vintage-looking decor pieces. It is a good product for painting old furniture, recycling flea market fines and achieving vintage looks from cottage to contemporary.

There is no need to prime or sand, as the paint provides excellent opaque coverage, adheres to all prior surfaces, is water-based, non-toxic and adheres to wood, ceramics, most plastics, canvas, terra cotta, fabric metal and glass. It easily distresses for a vintage appearance and can be buffed to a smooth, shiny finish when waxed.

Palermo Community Library is an all-volunteer library; anyone wishing to volunteer is encouraged to call 993-6088. For current news and activities, check out the Facebook page. The library offers books, large print books, audio books, inter-library loan, DVDs, VHS tapes, Wi-Fi, patron computers, printing, faxing and ancestrylibrary.com. There is a community room with large screen TV available for meetings and presentations.
