David W. Cassida, of Belfast, was awarded the Membership Paddle for 45 years of service to the community and the nation, in an award ceremony at the USCG Station, Rockland, Aug 15.

Cassida, a member of the Rockland Flotilla, joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary on March 4, 1969. He holds the Coxswain rating and in the course of his service he has been an instructor for boater safety courses and has served as a vessel examiner and an operations officer. He has volunteered more than 3,800 hours to the Coast Guard Auxiliary both afloat and ashore.

He currently heads up the PADDLE SMART program for the Flotilla. He was recognized for his long volunteer service and outstanding performance through the years in various staff positions at the Flotilla and District levels.
