Police are following up on leads regarding the identities of three men who allegedly stole medical marijuana plants from a Winterport residence.

Lt. Aaron Hayden said state police received "numerous leads" regarding the identities of the three men involved in the theft of an armful of marijuana plants from a residence in Winterport.

Hayden said police are now searching for the suspects but did not provide any additional details.

Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said Sept. 29 the three men were wearing clothing impersonating law enforcement when they entered a property at about 7 a.m. Sept. 21.The clothing depicted a 'SWAT' style vest and shirt with 'Sheriff' on the front, McCausland said.

One of the men involved in the robbery was armed with what police believe to be a semi-automatic handgun. When the homeowners verbally confronted them, the three men fled from the property with an armful of mature marijuana plants.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the robbery, McCausland said.

Two of the alleged robbers were caught on surveillance cameras on the property.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the robbers are asked to call state police dispatch at 624-7076 and ask for Trooper Elisha Fowlie or Trooper Sarah Ferland.
