Students in Regional School Unit 3 celebrated the fall season with a harvest lunch Sept. 25.

Every fall Maine School Nutrition Programs celebrate the fall harvest by serving locally procured foods for lunch, School Nutrition Program Director Allison Daugherty said. About 40 percent of RSU 3's food is locally sourced. Approximately 200 parents and 500 students were served during this year's harvest lunch.

The menu included homestyle meatloaf made from ground beef from Knox Farm, mashed potatoes, which were supplied by Heald Farm and gravy, steamed carrots from Terranian Farm, apple crisp with apples from Maine-ly Apples Orchard and a whole grain dinner roll.

"It is such a joy to serve high quality, nutritious meals in the School Nutrition Program in RSU 3. The staff take pride in their work and truly love feeding our students, which is demonstrated on days like this," Daugherty said.
