The Belfast Co-op's monthly 'Love Local Day' on Friday, Oct. 24, will feature Maine vendor Peak Organic Brewing Co. of Portland.

Peak is the first Non-GMO Project verified brewer in the country (visit nongmoproject.org), and October is Non-GMO Month (see nongmomonth.org).

Celebrating Maine's bounty, the Co-op's Love Local Day lunch special includes local ingredients: beer-braised pulled pork barbecue, made with pork loin from Goose River Farm, Swanville, braised in Peak Organic Hop Noir ale, served on a Co-op-made beer roll made with Peak Organic IPA, and roasted Yukon Gold potatoes from Common Sense Farm in Unity.

All Maine products will be discounted 10 percent all day, and the Co-op is open until 9 p.m. for a Peak Organic beer tasting and art opening in the Café, which provides an extra hour in which to take advantage of the savings throughout the store.

Over the past year, Co-op customers have purchased more than $1.9 million in local (Maine-grown, raised, harvested and produced) products. The Co-op stocks more than 2,200 Maine-made products.

Open 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, the community-owned Belfast Co-op is located at 123 High St. For further information, visit belfast.coop or call 338-2532.
