Belfast Flying Shoes will host Massachusetts-based trio Firefly Friday, Nov. 7. Chrissy Fowler will call for the evening of contra dancing at American Legion Post No. 43, 143 Church St.

The evening will begin 6:30 p.m. with a community dance led by Fowler with music by the All-Comers Band, led by Phyllis Buchanan and Jennifer Armstrong. Fun and simple dances will be taught, and both beginner and experienced dancers are encouraged to brush up on and learn new skills. All musicians are welcome to sit in. The contra dance will run from 8 to about 11 p.m.

Firefly features Cedar Stanistreet on fiddle, Rebecca Bosworth-Clemens on clarinet and Jon Cannon on guitar. Fiddle and clarinet weave together melody and harmony over the solid rhythmic groove, provided by Connon's guitar and foot percussion. Firefly is recognized for its smooth, but driving sets drawn from the Irish, New England and Quebecois traditions.

Admission for the community dance is $2 for adults and $1 for children. For the contra, the price is $10 for those older than 20; $7 age 13 to 20, as well as adult All-Comers; and $4 for children. As always, there is a dollar discount for every box fan brought in for the windows. For more information, call Fowler at 338-0979 or visit belfastflyingshoes.org.
