The Commons at Tall Pines, an independently owned multi-level senior care center in Belfast, was very proud to learn that one of their own was awarded Director of Nursing Services of the Year — Lori Hemingway, who manages nursing services for The Commons as well as The Residence, was chosen for the honor.

Hemingway has been working at The Commons for more than 15 years. She started as a charge nurse and quickly impressed her supervisors with her high level of skill, dedication and compassion. It wasn’t long before Hemingway worked her way up to the position of Assistant DNS, a position that The Commons no longer needed when she took on the role of DNS in 2005.

Matt Griswold, Executive Director of the Tall Pines community, said, “Lori makes it a priority to know each and every one of her patients clinically as well as personally. She is a strong advocate for their needs and a passionate supporter of our facility. Lori Hemingway is at the center of the great reputation that Tall Pines has for quality nursing care. I cannot think of a more deserving person for this award. There is no end to the time she commits and the intelligence and compassion she displays in her care. Our Families love her, our residents feel cared for by her and all of Tall Pines is a better place because of her.”

Under Hemingway’s direction, the nursing staff at Tall Pines has been delivering comprehensive, compassionate care to Waldo County’s aging population. In the time that she has been Director of Nursing Services for The Commons, the business has seen improvements in state inspection results, a non-biased measure of the overall quality of care provided by the nursing staff.

When asked about her feelings upon receiving this award, Hemingway replied, “I am deeply honored. I was really quite surprised by it and feel very proud to have been chosen.”
