The performing arts at Belfast Area High School are in good hands, as this weekend’s opening performances of “The Wizard of Oz” will attest — in fact, the production’s cast features 19 elementary and middle school students, in addition to 23 BAHS performers plus pit band and crew members.

Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 7, 8, 14 and 15, at 7 p.m.; and Sundays, Nov. 9 and 16, at 2 BAHS, 98 Waldo Avenue. Tickets will be available at the door for $8, $5 for students and senior citizens. For those for whom once is never enough, there is weekend special: see all three shows for $15/$10.

Stage Director for “Oz” is Sonja Richardson, with music direction by Patrick Munson and Cliff Young. Vocal direction has been provided by David Coffey, the Fine Arts Department’s new music teacher (see story link below).

“The Wizard of Oz,” adapted by John Kane from L. Frank Baum’s book, features music and lyrics of the MGM motion picture score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg; and background music by Herbert Stothart. The show will be presented in the BAHS gymnasium,  with concessions by Ice On The Move available at each show.

High school students on stage are Olivia Andrews, Leander Andrews, Patrick Groening, Cameron Pillitteri, Maximillian Howard, Hannah Lynam, Maggie Goscinski, Malcolm Dunson-Todd, Christian Stevens, Will Bickford, Alyson Peabody, Catey McGinn, Sarah Berry, Emma Sturdevant, Genevieve Schortz, Olivia LaRoche, Caneel Cheskin, Alyssa Limeburner, Tina Hill, Maylinda Boynton, Skyler Bean, Jon Landers and Ryan Turner.

Joining them from the district’s middle and elementary schools are Annaliese Pillitteri, Oliver Howard, Finn Tarbox, Elias Dodge, Sidney Hall, Anna McKenna Stevens, Marley Kormann, Jadon Dodge, Ashley Blais, Emily Wakeman, Halle Tarbox, Grace Woods, Abby Kormann, Juliette Landry, Halle Tripp, Rachel Richards, Isabelle DeGraff, Steven Mathis and Elizabeth Stoltz.

Pit band members are Grace Bagley, Sarah Berry, Kaitlin Goslant, Allison Martell and Ben Robson.

The busy tech crew includes Charlie Lagerbom, Jessica Tucker, Tina Hill, Alison Hills, Ashtyn Owen, Taylor Nickerson and Sadie Bartlett.
