A Belfast man was uninjured March 18 when his pickup truck hit a patch of ice, causing it to roll on its side.
Dominic Mercadante, 49, of Belfast was driving toward Lincolnville Center on Belfast Avenue (Route 52) around 9:15 a.m. when he hit a slippery patch of road and lost control of his late model Toyota pickup truck, coming to rest on the opposite side of the road.
Bitter wind and low temperatures caused runoff from recent melting to freeze on the roadway.
Mercadante was not injured in the crash. He was assessed at the scene by first responders and later declined transport by North East Mobile Health Services. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Belfast Avenue was reduced to one lane of traffic for approximately 35 minutes until emergency crews could clear the scene.
