The students of Diana Brookes Brown will present a recital of chamber music Tuesday, June 9, at 7 p.m. in the Band Room of Belfast Area High School, 98 Waldo Ave. The program will primarily consist of music from the Baroque period with selections by Telemann, Bach, Vivaldi, Handel and Quantz. Also on the program, as a nod to other musical periods and genres, are pieces by Schubert, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Joplin.

Brookes Brown teaches flute and voice privately at Waterfall Arts in Belfast and performs regularly in the Midcoast area, both as a soloist and as a member of early music ensemble the Somerset Consort. A former public school music teacher, she has taught privately for more than 50 years and now resides in Stockton Springs with her composer husband, Richard Brown.

The young flute students in the recital are all from Belfast and include Anna Struba, a graduating senior who will be spotlighted with her performance of a Trio Sonata by Johann Joachim Quantz. Struba, who has played flute for eight years, will attend the University of Maine in Orono in the fall where, although she plans to major in biochemistry, she also wants to continue playing her flute.

Performers will be assisted by Brookes Brown on flute, Deanna Sawtelle of Albion on piano and William Myers of Ellsworth on cello. The recital is open to the public, free of charge. For more information, call 567-3089.
