Three area students awarded Maine Law J.D. degrees

Portland — The University of Maine School of Law has awarded J.D. degrees to 77 students, among them three from Waldo County.

Heather Barrows and Taylor Sampson, both of Lincolnville, and Jon Johnson of Winterport received their J.D. degrees in a ceremony May 16 in Merrill Auditorium.

The law school also awarded more than two dozen merit awards to graduates. Sampson was among the merit award recipients, receiving one of two Maine State Bar Association Pro Bono Student Awards.

Those awards are presented to students whose law-related service to the community, without compensation or education credit, exemplifies the legal profession's tradition of pro bono service. Recipients are selected by the dean and faculty after consultation with the president of the Maine State Bar Association.
