Women, Infants and Children, or WIC, is a nonprofit supplemental food and nutrition program assisting income-eligible families.

WIC provides supplemental food packages, breastfeeding support, free nutrition infomration and guidance and referrals to other community programs to women who are pregnant, breastfeeding and up to six months postpartum; infants and children up to the age of 5, including foster children. Fathers may also apply on behalf of their children.

WIC serves working and nonworking families. Eligibility is based on a family's gross household income level, as well as other nutritional criteria. An application for services can be conducted on the telephone, or applicants are welcome to stop into the Rockland office to see if they qualify and make an appointment.

Potential applicants living in the Midcoast should call Midcoast Maine Community Action's Rockland WIC office at 594-4329 or toll-free at 800-260-6609 to see if their family qualifies for WIC.

The Midcoast Maine Community Action WIC program has offices and outreach sites in Rockland, Waldoboro, Union, Damariscota, Boothbay, Bath, Topsham, Richmond, Belfast, Liberty, Brooks, Frankfort and Unity.

The Rockland office is located at 7 Union St., and is open Mondays 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesdays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed for lunch from noon to 12;30 p.m.
