The Belfast Creative Coalition welcomes everyone to this month's Fourth Friday Art Walk July 24 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. More than 15 downtown galleries participate in the Fourth Friday Art Walks, marked by blue flags.

Walkers will enjoy the paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, etchings, assemblage and fine craft of local Maine artists. Teaching artist Bridget Matros will be in place at the white tent, offering a free all-ages hands-on activity; and parents can grab the Looking At Art Together gallery guides for tips on family-friendly galleries to visit and how to enjoy the art walk with kids.

Performing arts

Featured performers include dancer Shana Bloomstein, who performs as a solo improv/modern dance-based artist throughout New England and has been directing, dancing in “Women's Works,” the annual festival of contemporary dance by female choreographers, for the past 10 years; this year’s show runs Friday through Sunday, July 31 through Aug. 2, at the Rockport Opera House.

Also on the streets will be representatives of the Belfast Maskers and Marsh River Theater. They will be located at the corner of Main Street and High doing promotional performances for their upcoming plays.

Belfast Smart Growth Forum

The afternoon before the art walk, Grow Smart Maine will host a panel on economic growth through the arts. Belfast Smart Growth Forum: Art, Culture, and Economic Prosperity in Maine. Belfast Creative Coalition Executive Director Kimberly Callas will be one of the panelists discussing Belfast, a city that has pioneered this movement in Maine, and is a success story for arts and economic prosperity.

Upcoming 2015 art walks are set for Fourth Fridays Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Oct. 23; and a year-end wrap-up Dec. 4.
