Police are searching for a man allegedly seen stealing items from a vehicle late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden said his department was contacted by a woman who said she saw a man get into a vehicle on Main Street and begin taking items. McFadden said a K-9 unit was called to track the suspect.

McFadden said police were confident they were on the suspect's trail because they found some of the items allegedly stolen from the vehicle. However, the trail eventually went cold and police were unable to locate the suspect, he said.

The man is suspected of being involved in other break-ins reported to police over the weekend, McFadden said. Those break-ins occurred late in the evening of July 26 or early in the morning of July 27, he said.

Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call police at 338-2420.
