The Tom Luther Quintet returns to town to perform at the Three Tides Saturday night, Aug. 15. The group is currently promoting its latest album, "Necessity," which was released in May. There is no cover for the 9 to 11 p.m. show.

Special guest for the evening will be saxophonist Frank Mauceri, who has performed with Tom Porter & Friends, fire-caught-fire, Loki and the Frank Mauceri Trio; and is a senior lecturer at Bowdoin University.

"I'm really excited to have Frank sitting in with us. He has an effusive creative spirit, and is one of those musicians who will challenge the whole room," said Tom Luther of Union, the band's pianist.

Luther said Mauceri is an inventive improviser with a strong multiplicity of language to draw on so “Having both him and Mike (Whitehead) on the bandstand at the same time is going to guarantee some fireworks."

Luther also is particularly excited to have the group back in Belfast, a community “that has been a great support for us and it's been way too long that we have performed here."

TLQ will be performing material from both of their albums, as well as some newly written material. Three Tides, 2 Pinchy Lane, is located on the waterfront on Marshall Wharf, next to the tugboats.
