Faith Temple Church, 189 Lincolnville Ave./Route 52 (near Troy Howard Middle School), will host a cookout and concert Sunday, Aug. 23, beginning 4 p.m.

Danny Harper and his award-winning band will perform from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in what is being billed as a celebration of God, the United States of America and all the men and women who serve to protect us and our freedoms.

Harper began his country music career as a teen; winning numerous talent shows led to s guest appearance on the popular “Hal Lone Pine Show” in 1962. Harper later hosted his own TV show in Bangor and recorded several albums, including two produced in Nashville. During the 1980s, Harper opened for the likes of Conway Twitty, Reba McIntire, Lee Greenwood, Gene Watson, Bobby Bare and many other big Nashville acts. He became Johnny Tillotson’s opening act, touring New England and Canada. In the early ‘90s, Harper was opening act for the late, great Dick Curless. He has a new CD, "For the Love of Country," and promises a family-friendly show to delight die-hard traditional country music fans.

Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair and join in. For more information, call 930-5640.
