Long-distance hiker Thomas Jamrog will give a free presentation on “Why Walking Matters” Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Lincolnville Community Library, 208 Main St.

Jamrog has hiked and backpacked thousands of miles in the United States, and in 2014 won the Triple Crown of Hiking Award for completing continuous through hikes of the Appalachian, Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide trails. During his library program he will show photos and tell stories about his experiences walking on these scenic trails for months at a time. He will also share some of the latest research on the value of walking, particularly as one gets older, and offer tips on gear and training.

Jamrog is a licensed Maine Guide who offers guided backpacking trips and classes throughout the state. To read his blog "Living Large While Walking the Big Trail," go to https://tjamrog.wordpress.com.
