The Summer Jazz Concert Series will conclude Monday, Aug. 24, at 6:30 p.m. with Oirteht at the Palermo Community Library, 2789 Route 3. Oirteht features Wayne DeLano, saxophonist, pianist, arranger, composer and winner of the Detroit Montreal Jazz Festival, Aquinas College Jazz Festival and Wichita Jazz Festival.

DeLano has toured with Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Chaka Khan, Joe McBride and the University of North Texas One O’clock Lab Band. Other members of Oirteht are Jesse Feinberg on keyboard, Duane Edwards on upright bass and Mai Kheet on drums.

This free event will begin with a jazz improvisation workshop for kids of all ages at 5:30 p.m. and includes eats and treats.

The Summer Jazz Concert Series is funded by a grant from the Oak Grove Foundation to give children and adults the opportunity of experiencing live jazz music. The July concert was standing room only. A 9-year-old commented, “I love jazz!” and a man told the organizer it was “First rate! I thought I was in New York City.”
