On Thursday, Sept. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, Chef Frank Giglio will give a free presentation about bringing fermented foods into your diet.

According to Giglio, the benefits include improved digestion and enhanced bioavailability of nutrients in the food, strengthening of the immune system and the extension of our short growing season. Learn how you can use an array of fermentation techniques to preserve and nutritionally enhance everything from vegetables, to honey, to grains. This free event is sponsored by the community-owned Belfast Co-op.

Giglio is a Maine-based chef who runs Three Lily Farm in Thorndike where he guides and mentors students from across the globe about traditionally based diets, fermentation and rewilding your diet.  Giglio was the featured chef in Dr. Alejandro Junger’s "Clean Eats" cookbook which made the New York Times best seller list in May 2014.
