The Twilight of Black and White is the September theme for Belfast Free Library’s Friday Night Flix film series. The month features four memorable movies from the tail end of the black and white era of filmmaking. All the screenings are free and take place at 7 p.m. in the Abbott Room of the library, 106 High St.

On Sept. 11, the series will screen “The Hustler” (1961, USA). This exquisite character study focuses on “Fast Eddie” Felson, a brash and reckless pool hustler determined to beat “Minnesota Fats” and become the greatest pool player ever. What Eddie didn’t count on was falling in love along the way. A young Paul Newman heads an all-star cast with George C. Scott, Jackie Gleason and Piper Laurie. All four actors earned Oscar nominations for their stellar performances; fans of great acting do not want to miss this one.

Upcoming this month are: Sept. 18, “The Last Picture Show” (1971, USA); and Sept. 25, “The Elephant Man” (1980, USA). For further information, call the library at 338-3884, ext. 10.
