The Goosepecker Trekker Hike-A-Thon aims to raise funds for the maintenance of SWLA’s current trail system and the expansion of conserved lands in the watershed.

“The featured trail network is one example of the astounding diversity and majesty of Waldo County’s trails," Executive Director Anna Fiedler said. "This event will be an opportunity to experience and celebrate this wilderness and raise critical funds to ensure that lands in the region are protected for future generations to use."

Hike-a-Thon registration is $25/person and includes lunch. Participants are asked to raise an additional $50 through sponsorship. Registration Oct. 3 is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at Freedom General Store. Shuttle service will be provided for hikers from the registration area at the store on Route 137 in Freedom to the starting point on Goose Ridge Trail. After hiking back to Freedom General, participants are invited to a celebration lunch featuring farm-fresh food, music and fun at Freedom Village Farm, a premier CSA farm serving the local community. Lunch-only tickets are also available for purchase.

Established in 1991, SWLA maintains 19 miles of publicly accessible trails, protects more than 1,500 acres of land, and sponsors educational talks and hikes throughout the year.
