The city’s 36th annual Church Street Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Church and Spring streets. The theme this year is “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass” as part of the worldwide celebration of the 150th anniversary of publication of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice” books.

As always, the day will include Waldo County drummers, movers and shakers; parade marchers and performers; craft or food vendors; and community organizations. The theme of the 11 a.m. MythWeavers Theater parade is a Happy Birthday Tea Party for Alice, and everyone is invited to take part, costumed as their favorite characters; contact Mary Weaver to sign up at 338-5777 or mary.playhouse@gmail.com.

The yearlong “Alice” festivities have been a focus of MythWeavers children theatricals. In June, the troupe produced “The Alice Experience, Part One: The Words” at The Playhouse. The Children’s Theater Company’s rework of the production, with new puppets and special effects, will be presented between Oct. 10 and 17 at the First Church Parish Hall as “The Alice Experience: The Dream.”
