The Maine Academy of Country Music held its 13th annual awards show Sunday, Sept. 27, at American Legion Post 2. The awards are presented to a variety of artists who are dedicated to performing, preserving and promoting country music in the state of Maine.

Jacob Mills-Lightner of Belfast was the recipient of the Rising Star award, which is presented to a musician under age 18 who has demonstrated exceptional talent and has contributed to the promotion of classic country music. Mills-Lightner, who is 13 years old, plays fiddle and sings. He attends Maine Fiddle Camp in Montville; and plays locally in the All-Comers Band of the monthly Belfast Flying Shoes contra dance.
