While most children have the option to attend public school at no additional cost here in the United States, that is not always the case for children in Kenya, Africa. Expanding Opportunities, a Maine-based nonprofit organization struggles this time of year to make school fees for all of the children the organization serves in Kenya.

Unfortunately, some children from Expanding Opportunities’ projects were sent home on a recent Monday due to lack of school fees. While some of the children have sponsors, some do not. Art sales from Aina Moja in Belfast sustain the organization’s children’s home and other programs for children, however there is an ebb and flow of retail sales among coastal towns; this month, and after a recent robbery, funds are low.

Fortunately, Expanding Opportunities has paid all owed school fees for the children Expanding Opportunities serves and kids were able to return to classes.

Even so, contributions for future school fees and costs of operation at JWHS are appreciated.

To donate, mail a check to Expanding Opportunities at 39 Main St. 1B, Belfast, ME 04915. Donations also are accepted at Camden National Bank, by asking the teller to make a deposit in Expanding Opportunities' account No. 2791.
