Midcoast Actors' Studio will hold auditions for its first show of the 2016 season, “A Lie of the Mind,” Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Troy Howard Stage, 173 Lincolnville Ave./Route 52.

“A Lie of the Mind” was written by Sam Shepard, considered by many to be the greatest American playwright of the last 50 years. Winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award, “Lie” is a landmark play filled with enormous vitality and humor. It explores the destinies of two families, linked by marriage but set apart by jealousies and distrust, probing into the human heart and the destructiveness it can engender.

Rehearsals will start in December, and performances will be in March. Roles available include: Jake, an abusive husband, age 25 to 40s; Frankie, his brother, age 20s to 30s; Beth, an abused wife, age 20s to 30s; Mike, her brother, age 30s to 40s; Lorraine, Jake’s mother, age 50s to 60s; Sally, Jake’s sister, age 20s to 30s; Baylor, Beth’s father, age 55 to 70; and Meg, Beth’s mother, age 45 to 65.
