The Old Professor’s Bookshop October Shop Talk offers a Halloween-appropriate dramatic reading of Euripides’ “The Bacchae” Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. at the bookstore, 99 Main St.

The event features Charlotte Herbold and members of her Belfast Senior College Euripides class. “The Bacchae” is not only Euripides' greatest tragedy, but also one of the greatest ever written, modern or ancient. It is unusual in that the chorus is integrated into the plot and the god (Dionysus) is not a distant presence, but rather the protagonist of the play.

Herbold holds degrees in theater and English from Stanford University; the Max Reinhardt Seminar; the University of California, Berkeley; and the University of Maine. She and her Senior College students will read and dramatize this most chilling of Greek tragedies that is most appropriate for Halloween season, but not for children.

Admission is free. For more information, call 338-2006.
