Demolition of the former Maskers theater building is underway as the city prepares to clean up the property for future development. The building was originally constructed for Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad before becoming the home of the Belfast Maskers Theater Group. After the city's insurance carrier declined to cover the building and repairs were too expensive, the city effectively condemned it in 2011.

A crew began demolishing the building Oct. 19 and by Oct. 20, the building was almost entirely flattened.
