The Downeast School of Massage graduated eight new massage therapists Saturday, Oct. 24, at the school.

Alison Whitlock represented her class, speaking to the audience at graduation. Memories surfaced with laughter, gratitude, and tears representing the deep bonding shared by this class over the course of this year.

Graduating were: Ashley Davis-Oakes, Vinalhaven; Virginia Fanelli, Hope; Ivy Heiser, Winterport; Laura Kalian, Manchester; Jessica Leeman, Bristol; Sarah Rouleau, Portland; Whitlock, Belfast; and Renee Setaro, Appleton.

In business for almost 36 years, the more than 600-hour curriculum at DSM is Maine state licensed and approved for graduating students to apply for licensure as massage therapists. The 10-month program includes extensive instruction in anatomy, physiology, therapeutic massage, clinic, kinesiology, pathology, reflexology, deep tissue therapy, hydrotherapy, sports massage and a variety of other courses that prepare the student for an entry-level career.
