The Maine Educational Opportunity Center is a federal education initiative established to promote access to post-secondary education for traditionally under-represented adult populations within the state of Maine.

As part of its pre-entry service, MEOC advisers coordinate efforts with area schools, colleges and other service agencies to provide information and assistance in completing college admission and financial aid processes. MEOC advisers can assess academic readiness, provide career counseling, and refer individuals to community resources.

MEOC has been continuously funded since 1991. This year, $680,608 has been awarded to serve 2, 269 adults across Maine.

MEOC is committed to assist any qualified adult wishing to start college. The majority of MEOC participants are of the first generation in their families to go to college. Advisers offer workshops at various times and locations across the state to accommodate the busy schedules of adults.
