A ride to school in a fire truck is the stuff of children's books and dreams. On Nov. 5, Helina Penney got a chance to experience it firsthand.

The Unity Preschool student won the trip in a raffle held at Depot Country Store's third annual customer appreciation event Oct. 31.

Penney was joined by her mother Sarah Tardiff and Mark Fuller in a Unity Volunteer Fire Department truck driven by Lt. Anthony Sargent. Penney was presented with balloons, a cup of hot chocolate and a smoke detector for her home.

Sargent spent some time at the school educating Penney's classmates about fire safety and showing them the equipment used to fight fires.
