Maine Warden Service is seeking help investigating a poaching incident that occurred the evening of Nov. 18.

Wardens received a report at about 8:15 p.m. that a deer had been shot in the road near a daycare facility on Route 139. The shot was fired directly at the daycare facility, according to a news release from Cpl. John MacDonald of the Warden Service.

Witnesses reported seeing a tan or gold early 2000s diesel-model GMC or Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck, which is believed to have been involved in the incident, heading toward Monroe on Route 139. This is the second incident involving night hunting in that area in the past two weeks, MacDonald said in the release.

Maine Operation Game Thief was contacted and is offering a reward to anyone with information leading to the conviction of the individuals responsible.

“Not only is this scenario unsporting and unethical; it also created a substantial public safety concern in this small town,” MacDonald said.

Anyone with information can call Operation Game Thief at 800-253-7887 or Public Safety Dispatch in Augusta at 624-7076.
